The
latest on the band:
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
- "Albany's Explosives
filled an opening slot
admirably, and though this
comparatively young band
haven't achieved the full-on,
rock-god swagger of You Am I,
they showed a more enjoyably
theatrical aggression than
previously evident. Can we
hope for trashed Marshall
stacks in months to come?"
-Metroland, Sept.
24-30, 1998
- "The show was opened by a
fairly new arrival to the
Albany scene, the Explosives.
Rising from the ashes of a
handful of recently departed
local bands, the Explosives
play a brand of late-70's pop
perfectly suited to a Rhino
compilation. Boasting two
singer-songwriters, each with
a distinct vocal and writing
style, the band recalled to me
Los Angeles' the Nerves (whose
'Hanging on the Telephone' was
popularized by Blondie). There
were some rough spots--a stray
harmony here, a hesitant lead
there--but all were
attributable to the newness of
the band and will surely be
worked out in short order. The
Explosives are a band to
watch."
-Metroland, Nov.
13-19, 1997
- "Local openers were making
their area debut. The young
quartet have chops evident
both in playing and writing,
but they're still sorting out
their agenda and identity.
Where Madder Rose present
music that springs forth from
a believable sense of
character, the Explosives,
still finding their voice,
were all plot (albeit plot
that shows the promise of that
yet to come)."
-Metroland, Aug.
28-Sept. 3, 1997
